The rangers came around really early in the morning while we were pottering around packing up, but those who had camped and not paid for it woke up with a fine.

We went down the Davies Plain Track and drove across the Murray River. We were effectively in Victoria at this point! We had a look at the signage on the track – it was supposedly very difficult so we didn’t attempt it, but had a look around before heading back into NSW.

Pretty significant warning signs!

We visited Geehi Hut, the drove up to Olson’s Lookout which had some great views of Watson’s Crags. Then we left the National Park.

We kept on towards the border and crossed properly. We had to show the police stationed there our covid border passes on our phone. It was all very easy and civilised.

We drove through the East Gippsland State Forest. It was still recovering from fairly recent fires. There was a storm to the south that we could see from the top of the mountain which looked amazing. We couldn’t get any photos of it though because there were too many dead trees in the way, but there were great big streaks of lightning going across the sky.

We camped for the night at Ah Sye campsite on the Gibbo River, and had a new years eve dinner of fire-roasted potatoes and sausages.
