In part 1, I'd taken a boat across the lagoon from Venice to Burano. This was a lovely little island with some very colourful houses! The Acqua Alta wasn't quite so high today as it was yesterday (thigh high!), so I made the most of it.

When I was done walking around Burano, I caught the boat back to Venice, picking up the direction I had started on when it was flooding, though it turned out that I got a little lost on the way and ended up in the centre of Venice again. I was heading over to the Dorsoduro area, where I'd never been before, so I went that way, then looped around to where I'd become stuck in the water the day before.

It was much calmer today, and the gondoliers were out - they had to sit out the days when the Acqua Alta was really high as the water level was dangerous and they sometimes didn't fit under the bridges. I actually saw a laundry boat travelling along yesterday, the very high Acqua Alta day, attempting to get under a bridge. One of the guys on board had to climb over the bridge, while the guy steering the boat had to lie almost prone on the boat to squeeze under the bridge! Crazy!

Anyway, the water level was a lot lower today so the gondoliers and tourists were out in force! It was nice to see, it's not quite Venice without them.

I kept onwards in the direction of the church at the end, getting a little side-tracked by cute alleys, Murano glass and generally getting a little lost. I finally made it out the end though, and went inside the church. The floor was very impressive, as was the other decoration in the church, though the whole thing seemed a lot smaller inside than it appeared on the outside. The dome is quite large and imposing from the outside!

From the end of the Dorsoduoro section of Venice, I followed the curve of the Grand Canal then went over the Rialto Bridge back to my hotel. It was so nice to be walking normally, not sloshing through like I was yesterday - much easier!

I went to a nice restaurant for dinner that night. It was very cosy, and they had some good red wine to warm up with!
