After my exciting outing yesterday to the impossibly colourful Burano, my day 3 in Venice was quite unproductive.

I went out in the morning to have a look around and, once again, water was coming from everywhere - it was raining AND flooding. They sounded the alarm while I was out walking at about 8am. The tide was supposed to be the same height today as it had been on my first day there: thigh high.

I walked around St Mark's for a while but it was quite miserable and I just wasn't feeling it today. Unlike the other day of Acqua Alta, it was raining solidly with no let up at all! So I took some photos then went back to my hotel room, where I stayed for most of the day, listening to the sloshing of people outside. It was a day for waders and hardier people than myself.

I tried to go out to get something to eat at 4pm, but the floodwaters were just too high - I could barely walk a couple of metres away from my accommodation so I turned around and decided to wait it out a little longer. I was getting stir-crazy stuck inside but it was truly unpleasant outside.

At about 7pm, I checked the Acqua Alta flooding app and it said the water had receded. It still wasn't low enough to go out without wellies, but it was about 10cm high in most places, so definitely easier to walk through. I found a nice restaurant and went in - I was starving from my day being cooped up inside! So I ordered some wine and lots of food and treated myself to a lovely dinner.

Tomorrow was supposed to be better....
