Castle Combe is one of those places in Britain that's super famous on Instagram. On a cold, grey and rainy day in February, I stopped there after Lacock on my way to Devon. It absolutely looks postcard-perfect, with lovely stone houses, a river, and windy narrow roads. I can imagine that it is full of tourists in summer, so was grateful to go when I did!
Apparently, there used to be a castle in the vicinity of Castle Combe. Built in the 12th century, all that's left now is a mound of earth. The 14th century market cross still exists today, although it almost got demolished while I was there by tourists who definitely had trouble parking...
