DAY 59

11th February, 2021

We left Wilson’s Prom, after a quick look down at Squeaky Beach. It had been nice but the campsite was just too big and busy and touristy that it was not for us. Would be nicer to go either off season or on an overnight hike where you can stay in the wilderness.

The day was mostly spent driving. We wanted to get to Bendigo tomorrow to pick up some parts from Trent, Josh’s friend who lived in Bendigo who Josh had been getting parts delivered to since we first broke down in Tassie. We camped in La Trobe River camping area. It was small and basic which was great, but lots of bugs!

DAY 60

12th February, 2021

Spent the day driving to Bendigo. We drove down the Black Spur road in Healesville with all the ferns on either side that's very popular on Instagram. It was absolutely gorgeous, but I can’t see how anyone stops their car, parks it in a nice place and gets out to take a photo without traffic - it was a main road!!

Victoria, meanwhile, had announced a 5 day lockdown (covid) starting at midnight. We spent ages trying to decide what to do. We could stay at Trent’s property for the 5 days, or we could make a run for NSW.

We got to Trent’s place stopping off on the way to buy him a case of beer as thanks, and he and Josh started work fixing the Landy. They finished at 10:30pm, and Josh and I made the decision to dash for the NSW border before the 12am cutoff. We got there just in time and spent the night with lots of other people with the same idea in a rest area just on the border.

DAY 61

13th February, 2021

We drove to Wakool, found our campsite at about 11am and had a chilled out day. It was a really nice campsite too, in the middle of nowhere, by the Wakool River, lots of birdlife around. It had a weird concrete loo, but it wasn’t too bad. One of my favourite camping spots for sure - it was just simple and bushy with no one else around. Perfect.
