It's quite a common thing in England, it seems, to go for a walk on Boxing Day, to blow out the cobwebs and make a start on working off all the stodgy Christmas food. Thankfully, with Dartmoor close by, we had a lovely place to go wander around in. It was cloudy outside but not raining, so we chose a walk from one of our many walking books and drove to the start of the walk.
The walk we chose went to Oke Tor through a rather lonely area of the moors. Tors are the names given to a large rocky outcrop that sticks out of what is otherwise a smoothly rounded hill. They actually look a lot like old buildings, because the stones look like crumbling walls but they are entirely natural! You'll see what I mean below in the photos. Anyway, we set off across what was a rather wet path...
I'll be honest with you, I don't remember which of the several Tors we saw was actually Oke Tor. They do all look rather similar. But they are so interesting and pretty in the landscape...
We kept walking up hill and came upon lots more Dartmoor ponies! They are technically owned by people, but are allowed to roam across Dartmoor. They aren't really too scared of humans, just curious more than anything. They will spook if you move too quick but they are happy to just stand and watch you taking photos of them!
We were on our way back to the car and the weather looked like it was closing in when I looked over and saw this view. Ahh Devon, you are pretty!
