Day 3 started off with drive through the gorgeous Barrington Tops National Park and a visit to one of the lookouts there. What a view - you could see so far off into the blue distance! There was also some lovely lichen and moss to be seen around the lookout area; it looked so pretty!

We made our way down the forest road, stopping at a rest area that is known as an area that brumbies like to hang out. For those not in the know, a brumby is a wild horse in Australia, descendants of horses that have escaped capture, some with lineage back to European settlers. They are regarded as pests, but I couldn't really see that they had done much in the way of damage up there. I was hopeful of seeing one, but they were shy and were hiding. The landscape was nice though so almost made up for it!

Next stop was one of the pine forests inside the National Park. It was very dark inside the forest, with little light reaching the forest floor from the canopy.

We left Barrington Tops and popped out into the country at the back. This was real country land, and we drove through two massive stations - Ellerston and Glenrock - down dirt roads. We had to cross over 20 creeks on our way, and I was put to work opening and closing gates. It was great, real outback kinda stuff for someone who is very much a city girl.

We stopped off for a very late lunch in Nundle and explored the town. It was a nice little place, with some lovely old houses and a great looking antiques store. Then we walked up to Hanging Rock, which looked out over a gully, before setting up camp for the night at Sheba Dam.
