Started the day with some early morning visitors

We drove towards the Gulf to Karumba, which was quite the trip! We saw the most amazing farmhouse called Dunbar – so pretty, stopped to get a photo.

Then we went towards a river (this one had a single-lane bridge) but it seemed that two trucks had tried to cross at the same time and both trucks had knocked each other off!

We stopped for about 30 mins, so I made a tea, but it looked like the trucks had been stopped a lot longer than that. Eventually it got to a point where we could cross, so we did, but it was carnage.

The last bit of excitement was the BEST. We saw a cattle muster using a helicopter!! There must have been over 1000 cows and there were people on the ground with bikes rounding them up. The helicopter then buzzed overhead, catching the strays. It was a bit scary to watch, as the manoeuvres were quite dangerous! But just so thrilling.

We got to Karumba and had lunch after buying a few groceries from Spar. We’d decided to camp in a caravan park for the night and I went in to ask about vacancies but they were fully booked! There were SO many caravans around the town, as you could get there all on sealed roads. We took a few photos and left for a bush camp. We saw a guy there that had been at Mitchell River in a little camper called Teeny Weeny. He was a rugged old bloke, walking around barefoot and regaling Josh and Jayden with stories of when he and his wife used to go shooting pests on properties all around Australia. The camp itself was nice but after sunset we were sitting around the fire and realised we were absolutely surrounded by grasshoppers. So gross.

The Arafura sea. We've now seen all the seas around Australia
