We left Musgrave and headed for new territory, going west towards the Gulf. Rachel and Jayden came along with us, as they had to kill a bit of time before driving to the NT for a farm stay they were working at.

We took a really nice dirt road, stopping at a national park near a waterhole and an old rusty truck. Josh flew the drone overhead too but it was a bright day so a bit tricky for the drone camera.

We kept going, but when we got to the turn off for the Mitchell River, there was a sign saying that the road was closed and the direction of a detour. I looked on the map and the detour was about 220km, with no fuel along the way – just the absolute worst organisation, as we both would probably have run out of fuel going along the detour. So instead we drove around the road closed sign and went to the river to radio the road crew and tell them our predicament. They were doing work on the crossing across the Mitchell River - digging sand banks and laying plastic track on the riverbed. They were thankfully happy for us to cross and just moved their diggers out of the way. We crossed the river – very wide and with the possibility of crocodiles! It was so crazy.

We set up camp on the other side of the river fairly early, going bush-bashing to find a good view of the water. The boys had seen some freshwater crocs earlier but I didn’t see any sadly. They are a lot more shy than their larger salty friends. We went back at sunset and took some amazing photos and videos with the drone. It was so beautiful. We went back to camp and set a fire and roasted some potatoes, fried up some zucchini and corn and had the last of our “Big Brekky” can. It wasn’t bad!
