Today we finished the Telegraph Track. This section of it was the worst in terms of crossings.

We crossed Sam’s Creek, then another creek called Mistake Creek, and then Cannibal Creek (interesting names).

We then crossed the (in)famous Log Bridge – that was pretty sketchy. The bridge is made from logs of trees felled from around the area and they span across quite a deep gully. They were held together with string.

Logan’s Ford was next and we had to snatch strap Jayden out again, as the front of his car was stuck in the mud. There was a lovely little pond nearby with little fish swimming in it.

The worst crossing of all, though, was Nolan’s Brook. It was a steep drop in and then very deep water. Josh and Jayden were walking around in it to see how deep it was and it was up to Josh’s chest. There was another group ahead of us and they waited while we crossed in case we needed help. Turned out it was fine but we got water all in the cab, through the dash, which I’d stupidly forgotten to empty out and it ruined a spare camera battery that was in there.

We took a line off to the left of this, this one was about as bad as Gunshot

Rachel and Jayden did the crossing fine too – they took a different line. Their clothes are in drawers under their bed so I think they got a bit wet, but it wasn’t too bad.

We finally made it out to the PDR, and what a horrible road that is… They were doing some grading at the top near the ferry so hopefully that was just the start of them fixing the road!

We paid $100 and caught the Jardine River ferry over. We drove up to Somerset and camped there, surrounded by mudflats, palm trees, mangroves, ocean. It wasn’t the nicest campsite but the surrounds were very nice. There were even old WW2 graves up there. We flew the drone around and had a look – it looked so pretty and the beaches looked lovely. Wouldn't want to swim up here, too many nasties like crocs and irukandji around.
