We left the campsite and went to Barron Falls. It had a really nice walk through the treetops to get to the waterfall – turns out that I do love a jungle-y forest! The waterfall was running but there wasn’t that much water there so it didn’t look like what I’d seen on Instagram, which must have been after a very rainy period but it was still impressive.

Stopped in at the town of Kuranda for a look then drove down the mountain again and went to Smithfield to get some fuel.

From there, we drove to Palm Cove. I was expecting a little place with palm trees and instead was met with tourist central! We walked along the jetty and a bit along the beach then back to the car for some lunch.

Then we drove along to Port Douglas, stopping in at the beautiful Ellis Beach along the way. This was more like it! Palm trees along the beach edge the way Palm Cove should have been. It was also quiet, with only a few people walking along. I’m sure it won’t stay that way.

We camped that night at Rifle Creek rest area, which was a free camp with toilets and cold showers, but OMG it was busy and so noisy all night. Barely slept at all.
