DAY 144

11th July 2021

Started the day with a drive up to Mt Inkerman lookout. The road was so steep to drive up!

Then we went into Townsville to a chemist (I’m still having problems with my nose, not sure what I’m allergic to) and to the Woolies. Then we drove out west as the coastal areas didn’t have any camping. We stayed the night at Macrossan Park Camping, a huge free campsite on a river near Charters Towers. We dried our mattress out in the sun, it had been quite damp for a few days (sneaking suspicion that this is what I’m allergic to), and Josh flew the drove out over the river at golden hour. It was so beautiful, and a really nice spot to camp.

DAY 145

12th July 2021

We drove into Charters Towers, which was a really nice regional centre. There was a Woolies so we stocked up then drove out to Hughenden for fuel. There were a whole heap of army vehicles parked up there and we gave them a wave. We also stopped at a bakery to grab a pie for lunch.

I’d booked a national park campsite for the night so we drove out to Porcupine Gorge where our camp was. We had a quick look around after setting up camp then later did the scenic rim walk, which was beautiful at sunset. We flew the drone around a bit, as there was no one else around, and just took lots of photos. Had a fire that night and cooked sausages, corn and potatoes.

We were visited by a couple of Rufous Bettongs that night, which were little furry hoppy things. They were so cute, Josh even managed to pat one!
