DAY 140

7th July, 2021

We left Lake Awoonga and drove to Rockhampton.

Kept driving north – stopped at Mt Etna Caves National Park for lunch. We drove out to the St Lawrence wetlands campsite that had showers – $1 for 3 minutes. We got to camp quite early and cracked a cider at sunset. There were kangaroos around in the evening.

DAY 141

8th July, 2021

Left the campsite and filled the tank up a little in St Lawrence. The convenience/petrol store was like it was still in the 1950s, very cute.

We then drove to Sarina and went to the IGA – it was a very impressive IGA too! Cheap fuel in Sarina as well. The windscreen was hit by a rock and a chip formed on the way to Mackay so we stopped at the Supercheap there to buy a repair kit. Then we drove out to Finch Hatton Gorge.

Oh my goodness it was a pretty drive. It was our first look at all the sugar cane fields and I really liked it – all the green stalky sugarcane grass with neatly mown grass around it!

We stopped at the national park at the gorge then went for a walk to the waterfall/swimming area there called Araluen Cascade. It was so pretty but not warm enough for swimming. Josh also fixed the windscreen in the carpark.

The spot that we’d decided to camp at was up a VERY steep hill. We drove up to Eungella, smelling the brakes of the cars coming downhill because it was so steep, then on to Crediton Hall. The drive was so pretty - all the rainforest with the occasional dairy cow fields, I loved it.

Crediton Hall was also a nice campsite, with free firewood.
