DAY 137
4th July, 2021
Left the campsite and headed towards Biloela. We stopped in at Isla Gorge on the way – just saw the NP sign and thought we’d go have a look around. It was ok, but not a very impressive gorge as it was quite wide.
Drove to Bilo and stopped at Woolies for food. I was disappointed there wasn’t more about the refugee family there as they were still in detention (in Perth, not Christmas Island at that stage) and the community were still trying to get them home. It was my horrible local MP who was the immigration minister determining their fate.
We stopped at Lawgi Hall to camp for the night. It was pretty busy. We set up then saw some mice in the nearby long grass so moved to a spot near the top that had all been mown. Didn’t want any more trouble with bloody mice!
DAY 138
5th July 2021
We drove past signs for Cania Gorge in the morning (love a good gorge!) so I made Josh stop in there and we walked to the Overhang. A lovely walk with some nice scenery. Definitely worth the stop.
We then went to Monto to see the street art by Drapt and the Zookeeper. It was an awesome little town, full of street art.
We then drove on the Kalpowar Road, a very cool logging road. We stopped on the side of that road to have lunch as well as have a look at the street art on the Kalpowar train station.
We then continued on to our chosen campsite for the night – Lake Awoonga camping area. This site will go down as one of my all-time favourite campsites. Sadly, we have been back since then and it's overrun by caravans and not as good as it was during covid times.
