DAY 119

12th April

Another day with lots of k’s as we attempted to get back to Taree in a hurry in case the problem with the Landy got worse or it stopped working altogether. The photos below were taken at a rest area somewhere as we were being stalked by a Perentie lizard, very fitting.

We drove through Cloncurry, then Longreach, then Barcaldine where we stopped for fuel. We stopped outside of Tambo after doing about 1000km of driving.

DAY 120

13th April

A crazy day of 1300+ km’s.

We drove from outside of Tambo ALL the way to Taree.

At Mungindi, the road we were going to take was closed due to flooding, but the detour was way out of the way so we just drove through the signs. They did say that residents were ok to drive through so we weren’t being particularly reckless, and the road was actually not too bad. It was a lot shorter than the detour too.

We just kept driving on and on. It was so stressful. We were just both so focused on making it back to NSW and crossing the border was such a relief. At least we weren’t TOO far away now if the car became undriveable.

We stopped at Tamworth for dinner and got nasi goreng and then made it back to Josh’s place at about 10:30pm. We were both so relieved. The drive had been noisy, long, stressful and hot and we were exhausted.

———

I went back to Sydney on 19th April and picked up a few weeks of work while Josh worked and fixed the car.

He came to pick me up from Sydney and we drove back to Taree via Windsor, as he had to pick something up for the car there. Then it was off on the second part of our trip, after all the drama!
