We went to Torndirrup National Park to see the Natural Bridge and Gap. Another grey morning but it suited the view - all the granite looked imposing and the sea a dark shade of blue.
We also drove to Salmon Pools beach near the isthmus. I had planned to do the walk along the isthmus, but I wasn’t really in the mood – it was too far for how I felt that day! I did walk down the giant set of stairs to Salmon Pools and walked along the beach though. It was so nice. Not a swimming beach but gorgeous nonetheless.
We went back to Albany for supplies then started heading north. Josh did an oil change at a rest area (and accidentally spilled a whole lot of oil over the ground which we had to clean up), and these girls came up to us while we were having lunch. They had a hire car and had just done the 100km or so detour that we’d done a few days earlier and were running out of fuel. Unfortunately they had a petrol car so we couldn’t help them. But hopefully they managed to get to Albany, as it wasn’t too far away. Their fuel light was on but it should have about 40km left we thought.
We then went to the Porongurrup National Park to do the Granite Skywalk. It was SO HUMID. It was only a 2km walk but uphill in the humidity was such a battle. I managed to make it, then realised that the next bit up to the Skywalk required a bit of climbing. I managed to do it by myself (Josh was still walking up the hill), then went up the 7m ladder and up to the platform that was suspended on the rocks. It was windy up there and I realised my fear of heights a bit late and started panicking. So I didn’t stay too long!
I managed to get back down the climb too, which I thought was impressive, as it was pretty complicated, but then when I was walking on the flat path, I tripped over a rock and twisted my ankle. Oh it hurt. I messaged Josh and told him to get some drugs and water ready, as I assumed that he had gone back to the car but then I caught up with him on the way down. He made it to about 200m to the top and decided to wait for me. He should have kept going but he was wrecked - absolutely drenched through with sweat. We both made it back to the car, thank goodness, then drunk a lot of water.
Our camp for the night was the Kendenup Agriculture Hall. It was $15 including showers, definitely needed after all that sweating!
