We left our patch in the scrub and went to Penong. After having a look at the windmills there (they have the biggest windmill in Australia, one of 15 made in Australia), we started along the road to the main attraction.
There was a pink lake nearby, Lake MacDonnell, that we just had to go to! The pink colour is caused by salt-loving algae called dunaliella salina and bacteria called halobacteria that secrete red pigments that turn the water bright pink. We spent AGES there taking photos, it was really amazing, never seen anything quite like it before. It was pink and gorgeous.
We went back to Penong and had servo pies for lunch.
We then started along the Nullabor, stopping off at another scrubby rest area for the night.
