Collonges-La-Rouge is a commune in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine department of France. It is also classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France (Les Plus Beaux Villages de France), much like the village of Beuvron-en-Auge that I visited in Normandie. However, Collonges-La-Rouge isn't just another pretty village, but the place where the classification started in 1981 by the mayor of the village! There are now 156 such villages in France and, let me tell you, if I had all the time and money in the world, I would visit every single one of them, as the ones I have been to are so lovely!

Collonges-La-Rouge was slightly different to the other beautiful villages I had visited because, well.... It was red! Yes, all of the buildings were made out of the same red stone! Red, red everywhere! It was quite a sight, but I'll stop writing now and let the pictures show you what it was like...

It was about 6:30pm by the time that I finally wandered back to the campsite nearby where I'd left my campervan. I had a quiet night in the camper then woke up at 6am ready to set off for my next destination!

Campsite: La Valane

Rating: 8/10 - shady, hedged, good amenities. Very close to Collonges-La-Rouge.
