In my research for Paros, I found out about the Byzantine road, an old marble road that was laid in Christian Roman times. It leads from the village of Lefkes and goes all the way out to the ocean. I was planning on following it out to Marpissa, but in hindsight I wish I had gone all the way to the beach at Piso Livadi because it was just so enjoyable!

I started my day catching the bus to Lefkes, a little town in a mountainy region of Paros. It was so pretty too, a bit more real Greece than Parikia, with bougainvillea everywhere and a huge marble church.

The road itself was through hilly olive groves that sounded like cicadas and smelled of wild herbs. It was truly heaven. I was walking alone through a beautiful part of the world. It was pretty easy going, though the marble was a little slippery in parts. There were bee hives around the place and some wildflowers growing at the side of the path.

Finally, I walked down into the village of Prodromos. This village was a perfect, pristine example of a Greek island village - it was clean, perfectly white and totally picturesque. I picked up a cold drink in the convenience store there then started on towards Marpissa. I couldn't quite find a path, so I ended up walking along the road, which wasn't ideal but it wasn't very busy.

When I got to Marpissa, it was well and truly lunch time, I was starving. I found a little taverna called Charoula's Tavern, and ordered some lunch which was brought out by none other than Charoula herself. It was a cute little place, thankfully under a beautiful shady tree. After lunch, I poked around Marpissa, which was a pretty little village.

However, from there, I had no idea of when the bus would turn up (again, I should have kept going to the ocean - hindsight is a wonderful thing!). And there were very few taxis on the island (I think about 20), and no Uber. So with that in mind, I went to the bus stop and stood in the hot hot sun until my bus turned up, almost an hour later. There was no timetable at the stop, nothing I could find online either. Not the most convenient, but I managed to get back to my hotel.

I relaxed after my big walk, then got ready for dinner. I walked to the Aroma's Restaurant on the main road, where I had a really tasty last meal on Paros, watched the sun set, drank some wine then wandered back to my hotel. What a great way to end my time there!
