My next stop after Avignon was Pont du Gard.

They should warn tourists before they drive into the car park - just by driving in, you have to buy a ticket. I literally only wanted to go in and have a look at Pont du Gard, but it turns out you can't really do that. Or if you do, you need to park about 3km away and walk. So I went to the ticket office to pay for my parking, as I didn't want to pay €18 for a ticket (which combines swimming at the river for 4 or 5 people with parking a museum and other things) but was told I had to pay the full fare! I told the lady I was here alone and that I only want to have a look at the bridge, so she reduced it a bit, but it was still a rip off.

However, once I walked down to Pont du Gard, it was so worth it. Even writing about it now, I remember vividly the HUGE structure that appeared as I was just walking through the bush. It was built in the FIRST century AD. Seriously it's sooooooo old! Humans wouldn't be able to build a bridge like that these days. It was incredible. Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the talking...
